Summary

Make your home a healthier and more beautiful place to be with Hilton Carter’s inspirational ideas。

Take a tour through Hilton’s own apartment and other lush spaces, filled with a huge array of thriving plants, and learn all you need to know to create your own urban jungle。 As the owner of over 200 plants, Hilton feels strongly about the role of plants in one’s home—not just for the beauty they add, but for health benefits as well: ‘having plants in your home not only adds life, but changes the airflow throughout。 It’s also a key design element when styling your place。 For me, it wasn’t about just having greenery, but having the right variety of greenery。 I like to see the different textures of foliage all grouped together。 You take a fiddle leaf fig and sandwich it between a birds of paradise and a monstera and…。 yes!’ You will be armed with the know-how you need to care for your plants, where to place them, how to propagate, how to find the right pot, and much more, and most importantly, how to arrange them so that they look their best。 Combine sizes and leaf shapes to stunning effect, grow your own succulents from leaf cuttings, create your own air plant display, and more。

Five HUGE stars for this amazing book by Hilton Carter。 Mr。 Carter combines plant care with home design in this gorgeous book filled with heavyweight paper and enchanting photography。 My house is already somewhat of a jungle。 I devoured the book, and now I cannot WAIT to try his easy methods for getting a design look when I decorate with plants。 The quite personal writing in this book really contributed to the book’s appeal。 It is impeccably written, but with a quirky sense of humor that lends t Five HUGE stars for this amazing book by Hilton Carter。 Mr。 Carter combines plant care with home design in this gorgeous book filled with heavyweight paper and enchanting photography。 My house is already somewhat of a jungle。 I devoured the book, and now I cannot WAIT to try his easy methods for getting a design look when I decorate with plants。 The quite personal writing in this book really contributed to the book’s appeal。 It is impeccably written, but with a quirky sense of humor that lends the writing a real nerd appeal。 I loved it。 I also feel very inspired by it。 。。。more

Admittedly, I got this book from the library for the pictures and perhaps new ideas for how to place plants in my home。 I don't generally read these type books cover to cover。 The author is more well-to-do than I am, and that was reflected in the tone and somewhat off-putting, but the photography was beautiful。 I may create a plant hammock as I've recently rediscovered some macrame cord I'd set aside years ago before life got so busy。 A lovely book for the plant lover to flip through on a rainy Admittedly, I got this book from the library for the pictures and perhaps new ideas for how to place plants in my home。 I don't generally read these type books cover to cover。 The author is more well-to-do than I am, and that was reflected in the tone and somewhat off-putting, but the photography was beautiful。 I may create a plant hammock as I've recently rediscovered some macrame cord I'd set aside years ago before life got so busy。 A lovely book for the plant lover to flip through on a rainy day and dream。 。。。more

What an inspirational book! The author is an interior designer who works specifically with plants to help plant parents make use of the space they have for the plants they have or maybe want。 I had actually been considering getting a fiddle leaf fig until I read this book and learned they needed a lot more light than my current room organization could probably provide。 But because of that, I'm actually going to be rearranging my bedroom specifically to accommodate the plants I have in my life! Maybe I'll actually be able to support a fiddle leaf fig then。This book is also the first I read of the houseplant books I have, which means this is the book that taught me how to repot plants *properly* as opposed to what I had been doing (and likely causing my plants unneeded stress, whoops)。 The real stand out, however, are the pictures, which are super inspiring and i might end up stealing some of the ideas for my own space in the coming months。 。。。more

As a plant styling book it's great! loving the interiors and plant details pictures。 But on the information about plants it's quite basic to me。 As a plant styling book it's great! loving the interiors and plant details pictures。 But on the information about plants it's quite basic to me。 。。。more

Emphasis is on style rather than care。 If you're looking for ideas on how to use plants for home decor, then you'll enjoy this。 If you're a new to caring for houseplants, read The New Plant Parent: Develop Your Green Thumb and Care for Your House-Plant Family instead。 Emphasis is on style rather than care。 If you're looking for ideas on how to use plants for home decor, then you'll enjoy this。 If you're a new to caring for houseplants, read The New Plant Parent: Develop Your Green Thumb and Care for Your House-Plant Family instead。 。。。more

Contains instructions on making a plant throne, good book for inspiration on making an urban jungle indoors as well。 Also had a good idea for a cutting wall。

Super basic and amateur writing。 But the photos are really pretty。 This book is stylish。

Beautiful images - lots of plantspiration!

I loved digging in (haha) to this plant book, it has good tips and hacks, but I did find myself wanting to hear a little more detail around plant selection and care。

This was one of the stupidest and dumbest ideas made for a book ever。 The pictures of plants were fun to look at, but that one with a random painting in the back that had and obscene piece- NOT wanted。 I barely skimmed this book before putting it down and deciding that it just wasn't worth my time。 Yikes。 This was one of the stupidest and dumbest ideas made for a book ever。 The pictures of plants were fun to look at, but that one with a random painting in the back that had and obscene piece- NOT wanted。 I barely skimmed this book before putting it down and deciding that it just wasn't worth my time。 Yikes。 。。。more

This was a good book, and I would recommend it to anyone interested in learning more about caring for plants in your home。 I would especially recommend it to anyone interested in learning more about how plants can improve the vibe of your home。Feng Shui peeps rejoice。I think the 3/5 rating might be closer to a 3。5/5 if I had the option, but the reason for the average rating is because I was hoping for a little more。 Most of what is taught in the book I've picked up through random Google searches This was a good book, and I would recommend it to anyone interested in learning more about caring for plants in your home。 I would especially recommend it to anyone interested in learning more about how plants can improve the vibe of your home。Feng Shui peeps rejoice。I think the 3/5 rating might be closer to a 3。5/5 if I had the option, but the reason for the average rating is because I was hoping for a little more。 Most of what is taught in the book I've picked up through random Google searches and trial and error over the last couple of years of caring for plants。 I did pick up some interesting tips on propagating as well as how to style plants in a space, though。 It's a truly beautiful book and I will definitely be opening it back up as I continue to grow my plant family and want to recall some of Hilton Carter's thoughts on choosing the right pot & space for the new addition。All in all, it was a light read with some beginner to intermediate tips on plant care。 Worth checking out if you've got ~3-4 hours and a love for foliage。 。。。more

It's a nice coffee table type book, some great advice however it has an autobiographical side which makes it very unrelatable。 A lot of the advice is based on if you have a huge studio apartment in America with huge windows and ceilings。 I definitely learnt some things, but it felt a bit braggy in parts。 It's a nice coffee table type book, some great advice however it has an autobiographical side which makes it very unrelatable。 A lot of the advice is based on if you have a huge studio apartment in America with huge windows and ceilings。 I definitely learnt some things, but it felt a bit braggy in parts。 。。。more

Gorgeous book。 Unfortunately just gave pretty generic tips when I was hoping for more specific detail。 Really love all the plant eye candy though, a gorgeously styled book。

Wild at Home is a very pretty book to look at (maybe a bit of a chaotic mess for some, others will agree it's more 'nature and livable' than the Pinterest board photos) but lacked in a few areas for me。 Mainly because the same few plants were featured over and over again。 Here’s what I enjoyed:🪴 beautiful imagery 🪴 basic plant care/info 🪴 great tips to style/incorporate in your home🪴 easy and quick to read 🪴 great guides for beginners Wild at Home is a very pretty book to look at (maybe a bit of a chaotic mess for some, others will agree it's more 'nature and livable' than the Pinterest board photos) but lacked in a few areas for me。 Mainly because the same few plants were featured over and over again。 Here’s what I enjoyed:🪴 beautiful imagery 🪴 basic plant care/info 🪴 great tips to style/incorporate in your home🪴 easy and quick to read 🪴 great guides for beginners 。。。more

Beautiful pictures and good tips。

For me this book definitely did not live up to my expectations and I do not understand the hype around it。 In terms of plant care it's pretty basic and the styling tips are only for people with his paycheck。 I also found the tone very pretentious and at times patronising, basically if you don't do it his way, why bother having plants in your life at all。 Unfortunately, this book did not give me anything, except maybe a few pretty pictures。 For me this book definitely did not live up to my expectations and I do not understand the hype around it。 In terms of plant care it's pretty basic and the styling tips are only for people with his paycheck。 I also found the tone very pretentious and at times patronising, basically if you don't do it his way, why bother having plants in your life at all。 Unfortunately, this book did not give me anything, except maybe a few pretty pictures。 。。。more

A little wordy for me but loved the pictures and the design ideas。 Also appreciated the multitude of various tips he gave from how to shop for a plant to how to stage a plant to how to care for different types of plants。 Easy and quick read。 Worth looking at if you’re interested in having plants in your house or if you’re already a plant owner。

Hilton Carter has written a book that invites the reader to dive head first into the abundant plant keeper style。 His friendly, encouraging tone coupled with gorgeous photos and informative text spreads plant love everywhere。 Reading this makes a plant lover smile。

I don't understand this book。 It has super beginner instructions for watering and repotting, but the layouts were expert level。 The author kept talking about basically the same 4 plants and it got repetitive。 It looks like the author just wanted to write a book to show off his plant rooms。 I learned absolutely nothing from this book except that the author loves showing off how many plants they have。 2 stars because the pictures of the plants were nice。 I don't understand this book。 It has super beginner instructions for watering and repotting, but the layouts were expert level。 The author kept talking about basically the same 4 plants and it got repetitive。 It looks like the author just wanted to write a book to show off his plant rooms。 I learned absolutely nothing from this book except that the author loves showing off how many plants they have。 2 stars because the pictures of the plants were nice。 。。。more

More a manual for how to style one’s home into a jungle, this book was an informative and lyrical homage to large tropical houseplants。 I enjoyed the Lamp Terrarium tutorial and some of the very specific info on plant care, and may try to create my own cradle for my own cuttings。 The author’s plant fervor well outpaces my own (I’m more of an outdoor gardener) but helped my teen create a plant plan for her bedroom rearrange/restyle。

Meredith

Great inspiration for designing with plants!
